Apex Theatre Studio presents Moana Jr. on Saturday and Sunday, July 29 and 30, 2023. 2:00pm-3:30pm at Lewis Auditorium at Flagler College. A musical adaptation of the 2016 animated film, Disney’s Moana Jr. brings the adventures of Moana and her village of Motunui to life onstage.
This thrilling and heartwarming coming-of-age story follows the strong-willed Moana as she sets sail across the Pacific to save her village and discover the truth about her heritage. Moana and the legendary demigod Maui embark on an epic journey of self-discovery and camaraderie as both learn to harness the power that lies within. With empowering messages of bravery and selflessness, Moana Jr. brings out the hero within each of us.
Apex’s 2nd annual Penguin Project production, young artists with developmental disabilities fill all of the roles. Those include Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, autism, intellectual disabilities, learning disabilities, visual impairment, hearing impairment, and other neurological disorders. They are joined on stage by a dedicated group of ‘peer mentors’, children the same age without disabilities. They’ve volunteered to work side-by-side with them through four months of rehearsals and the final performance. By providing access to community theater, The Penguin Project demonstrates that the special challenges of a disability should not handicap a child’s ability to participate in life’s experiences.
