Be ready for an engaging Saturday Seminar at the Governor’s House Cultural Center and Museum.
Date | Time: October 14, 2023 | 9:00am-10:00am
Have you ever wondered what is in the Governor’s House? Or who was behind the historic preservation movement in St. Augustine?
Join us as we learn all about the Historic St. Augustine Preservation Board in addition to the long and fascinating history of this building with the Governor House Library, an affiliate library of George A. Smathers Libraries at the University of Florida.
The seminar includes a talk and tour of the building with Governor’s House Library staff Casey Wooster (Collections Assistant) and Laura Douglass Marion (Collections Coordinator). It concludes with the special exhibit “Painting St. Augustine: Selections from the Samuel H. and Roberta T. Vickers Collection”.
Since 1598, a structure has stood and served St. Augustine on the site of today’s Governor’s House. Various versions of the building over the centuries have held a gubernatorial residence, courthouse, customs house, and post office. Now, Governor’s House hosts a public museum, visitor information desk, event rental space, and academic facilities in support of the University of Florida. Academic use of the building includes an archaeology laboratory in collaboration with Flagler College, Governor’s House Library research collection, and Preservation Institute St. Augustine (PISA).
8:30am — Check-in with Free coffee and doughnuts
Cost: Fee for Lifelong Learning Members | $10.00 for Non-Members
