Virtual Lecture Series: Uncovering Black Society in 19th Century Florida 

Join us for the Virtual Lecture Series: Uncovering Black Society in 19th Century Florida, held on select dates in October 2022.

The series is a continuation of the stories heard in the acclaimed program, “I Lived Here, As Well”.   Topics will further explore the lives of early black Floridians. Those participating will learn more about some of the invisible hands portrayed in the annual program.

Presented by: Ximenez-Fatio House Museum and the National Society of Colonial Dames of America in the State of Florida, along with grant support from the James and Sally Anne Kellogg Fund at The Chicago Community Foundation.

October 10, 2022 | Ms. Alcione Amos – The Life of Luis Pacheco, 1800 – 1895: the ‘Accidental’ Black Seminole.

October 17, 2022 | Dr. Anthony Dixon – “Maroon Communities” – An overview of black Seminoles and the impact of the Seminole Wars on Florida.

October 24, 2022 | Mr. James Bullock and Ms. Charmin Russell – Cultural Cooking in 19th Century Florida.

Proceeds will go to the preservation and restoration of this unique coquina and tabby 1798 constructed House Museum. It portrays 19th century life of owners, guests, and servants in a fashionable Boarding House in the heart of old St. Augustine.
