Nights of Lights “Light Up Night”

Nights of Lights “Light Up Night”, one of the most anticipated events in St. Augustine, is a great way to start the Holiday season. This annual event kicks off St. Augustine’s Nights of Lights Celebration which runs from November 23, 2019 through February 2, 2020.

Festivities begin at 4:00pm in front of the Lightner Museum with a performance by Showtime USA, a song and dance troupe of young people.  Crowds of people then make their way to the Gazebo in the Plaza de la Constitución for the start of the All Star Orchestra as they take the stage with great swing and big band sounds all in grand holiday style at 5:30pm.

Thousands gather to listen to the Holiday music, then participate in the countdown that begins at 6:30pm for the lighting of the Christmas Tree.  Another countdown follows, with the crowd counting down from ten, to set downtown St. Augustine aglow in millions of tiny white lights.  This year Paul K. Williamson, who recently retired as the city’s Public Affairs Director, will flip the switch that lights the city’s Christmas tree. Then former mayor Ramelle Petroglou, who served the city nearly four decades ago, flips the big switch to light the city.

Stick around afterwards and enjoy the entertainment as the Holiday music continues, do some Christmas shopping, grab a bite to eat, or wander around downtown and soak in the ambience of downtown St. Augustine all aglow.
