In collaboration with the Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes of Oklahoma, Flagler College and the National Park Service present a Native American Heritage Month Special Program on Wednesday and Thursday, November 16 & 17, 2022. Events are Free and open to the public.

“Honoring the Historic Footprint of the Cheyenne and Arapaho Warriors at Fort Marion (Castillo de San Marcos), 1875-1878”

Special events will take place to honor and remember the Cheyenne and Arapaho Warriors who were imprisoned at Fort Marion. They’ll feature memorial ceremonies, remembrances, and educational sessions.

Thursday, November 17, 2022 — 9:00am-3:00pm
* History of Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes
* Long-lasting impacts and intergenerational trauma of imprisonments and assimilation efforts
* Native American prisoner of war burials in St. Augustine
* Importance and impact of art in recording and preserving Tribal Heritage

Keynote Address at Lewis Auditorium
Thursday, November 17, 2022 — 7:00pm (Doors open 6:00pm) — First come, first served basis.
Dorothy FireCloud, National Parks Service American Affairs Liaison and Assistant to the Director, will close the events. Her responsibilities include ensuring the NPS meets the requirements of the Department of the Interior’s Policy on Consultation with Tribal Nations. Also supporting the Director on issues impacting Native American, Alaska Native, and Native Hawaiian communities.
