Livestock Event

Stop by Riberia Garden on May 12, 2023 from 10:00am-3:00pm for the free, Livestock Event. Meet the historic livestock of Florida!

Most people may not realize that cattle, horses, and pigs are not native to the United States. Spanish explorers such as Ponce de Leon brought cattle, horses, and pigs to what is now known as Florida. In order to have more room to return to Spain with the treasures they accumulated, the animals were left behind. Transplanted cattle that arrived in Florida were called by many names; however, one of the easily recognized names is the Florida Cracker Cow. Horses that were left in Florida also acclimated to their environment and roamed free for hundreds of years.

Learn about the Florida Livestock industry, Florida Cattlemen, Beekeeping …. and much more.

Pet the live cracker cow and quarter horse. Take a selfie.

Brought to you by the UF/IFAS St. Johns County Extension Office and the UF Historic St. Augustine, Inc during the St. Augustine History Festival.
