Join us on September 4, 2021 at the Mission and Shrine grounds for a Founder’s Day Commemoration of the 456th Anniversary of the founding of the City of St. Augustine by Pedro Menéndez de Aviles.
The historical re-enactment of the landing of Pedro Menéndez begins at 10:00am. A celebration of Holy Mass by Bishop Felipe Estévez follows at 11:00am at the Rustic Altar.
Salutes with cannons, pikes, flags, and arquebuses set up at the Fountain of Youth will accompany both Menéndez’ landing and his arrival at the Fountain of Youth from the Mission following the religious ceremonies.
Admission is Free. There will be limited parking. Bring your own lawn chairs.
Head on over to the Fountain of Youth at 1:00pm where activities continue (entrance fee applies). A reenactment of the First Thanksgiving takes place after the arrival of Menéndez entourage at the Fountain of Youth.
