First Friday Art Walk Recitals begin on Friday, September 3, 2021 after a hiatus due to Covid-19.
The Lopez/Tabor Duo, Alfonso Lopez on violin and Michelle Tabor on piano, return to the Cathedral. They’ll be performing the music of Archangelo Corelli, Sergei Prokofiev, Isaac Albeniz, and others along with a composition “Barroco y Brincon” composed by Maestro Lopez.
Alfonso Lopez is one to the most prominent and versatile musicians of his country. Along with being a conductor, teacher and composer, he holds the important position of concertmaster of the Venezuelan Symphony Orchestra. It is the national and principal orchestra which has been nominated twice (in 2013 and 2017) to receive a Latin Grammy Award.
Michelle Tabor grew up in Venezuela and now lives in Tallahassee, Florida. She holds a doctorate, masters and bachelor’s degrees in music from Florida State University, the University of Denver, and Tulane University.
The Music Department hopes to be able to open the Cathedral Basilica fully. The status of the pandemic will factor in that determination. The administration of the Cathedral Basilica, the Diocese of St. Augustine and the recommendations of the CDC will make the final decision at the time.
Cathedral Doors Open 5:30pm / Recital 6:00pm
