1821 Commemoration Event
On July 10, 1821, Florida became a United States Territory. This July 10th marks the 200th Anniversary!
To commemorate the occasion:
19th Century Historical Encampment
Friday and Saturday, July 9 & 10, 2021 — 9:00am – 5:00pm — Fountain of Youth Archaeological Park. Free entrance from Myrtle Avenue. Cannon and musket firing, camp life, cooking demonstrations will be just a small part of the activities.
Change of Authority Commemoration, followed by “Change of Flags” Ceremony
Saturday, July 10, 2021 — 11:00am — in front of the Governor’s House Museum. Witness the signing of documents and Keys to the City being exchanged. The entire group of military, dignitaries and townspeople will be dressed as they would have been in 1821.
Then, join in and follow the living history interpreters. Follow the procession to the National Guard Parade Grounds on Marine Street. There will be cannon and musket firing.
