St. Augustine Music News
When it comes to entertainment, you haven't truly enjoyed St. Augustine until you've sampled the local music scene. Nearly every pub and restaurant in the St. Augustine area from Vilano Beach down into Flagler County features a host of talented artists throughout the week. To help you find out where your favorite band or musician is performing, OldCity.com friend Lisa Mack puts together a schedule of live entertainment which is updated regularly. Check back often for a new list so you won't miss your favorite artists in St. Augustine.
Greetings Music Lovers!
I hope everyone is enjoying a great week. I am very much looking forward to having a few days off this Memorial Day weekend, the first weekend I haven't been working some event or festival since sometime in late February. I love festival season, but lawdy!!! The hours!!
There is, however, one of the area's favorite festivals going on this weekend over in Palatka . . . The annual Blue Crab Festival kicks off this Friday, May 24th, along the riverfront in downtown Palatka, and the food and fun continue right through Monday, the 27th - Memorial Day. As always, the Blue Crab Festival will feature carnival rides, arts and crafts, lots of vendors and exhibitors, and or course, blue crabs (and lots of other great seafood), as well as a full lineup of wonderful music all weekend long. The festival is open Friday from 5 p.m. to midnight, Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to midnight, and Monday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The entertainment runs all four days, and includes many beloved local bands, as well as regional and national acts. For a full schedule of events, visit http://www.bluecrabfestival.com
As you party and celebrate this weekend (be careful!), don't forget the reason that we observe Memorial Day in the first place. It matters.
Speaking of fitting memorials . . .
Lis and Lon Williamson over at Gatorbone Studios, along with lots of their oh-so-talented friends, have embarked on "The Oklawaha County Jamboree, A Gamble Rogers Tribute." The project is intended to " keep the flame of Gamble Rogers' musical legacy burning brightly for the next generation of Florida musicians." Gamble Rogers was an extraordinary storyteller, guitar picker, singer, songwriter and entertainer who tragically lost his life in October of 1991 attempting to save a drowning man. He was and remains a hero in many ways, and was a friend and mentor to scores of local and regional performers, several of whom are involved in this project.
Lon and Lis are producing the tribute project at Gatorbone, but have begun a Kickstarter campaign to raise funds to cover the components of the project that must be done externally, such as artwork, duplication, music licensing costs, etc. Please visit The Oklawaha County Jamboree, A Gamble Rogers Tribute by Gatorbone Studios — Kickstarter to find out more about the project and make a contribution if you can. This is a time-limited campaign - it will run only until June 23rd. At this writing, about 63% of the targeted $5,000 has been raised.
I hope you all have a wonderful holiday weekend - be safe and have fun!
