For the month of June, the Women’s March Florida – St Augustine pays homage to those that marched and put their lives on the line for what was right in the Summer of 1964 in St Augustine. During the monthly chapter meeting, we’ll look back to the June of 1964 and the Civil Rights Movement in St Augustine. To know where we are, we must know our cities past and the impact of the movement due to the passing of the Civil Right Act of 1964 ending Jim Crow Segreation. Without St Augustine, the act wouldn’t have been passed in the escaltated time frame and it was determination of a small group in St Augustine that drove the passing.
Dr Dorothy Israel, well known in St Augustine as a masterful story teller, will be speaking about the importance of the Civil Rights movement in St Augustine.
We may have another special guest and treat in store. More details to follow.
