Winter Solstice celebrations go back for ages and have been included as a ritual in many cultures. The tradition started with a fear that the fading daylight would never return unless humans kept watch and celebrated the seasonal change.
Join us at Washington Oaks behind the Visitor Center for our Winter Solstice Celebration. Watch the light come up on the first day of the solar new year. Park Ranger Joe Woodbury will share his knowledge of the myths and legends centered on the Winter Solstice and help you track the movement of the sun throughout the year.
Hot coffee will be provided. Meet in the Garden parking lot.
Program is included with park entry of $5 per vehicle, up to eight people; $4 per vehicle for single occupancy or $2 per person on bicycle.
