The St. Augustine Amphitheatre proudly welcomes iconic rock vocalist and keyboardist Steve Winwood, with guest Lilly Winwood, to the stage. Winwood has remained a primary figure in rock ‘n’ roll for more than four decades. He’s a respected innovator who has helped to create some of the genre’s most celebrated achievements. Winwood burst into prominence in 1963 with the Spencer Davis Group and since that time his celebrated skills as a composer, vocalist, and multi-instrumentalist have developed an impressive catalog of popular music.
Many honors have been bestowed on Steve Winwood. He’s a recipient of the Ivor Novello Outstanding Song Collection and the Musicians Union Classic Rock Award — honors both voted for by his peers. Winwood has also received an honorary doctorate Degree in Music from Berkeley College of Music as well as a second Doctorate from Ashton University in his hometown of Birmingham, England. On June 5th, 2012 he was inducted into the Walk of Fame in Nashville, TN. While rightfully acknowledged for his many achievements, Steve Winwood forges ahead undaunted, continuing to create and perform new and exciting material. He remains one of the most important and influential artists in all of popular music.
Lilly Winwood (daughter of classic rock legend Steve Winwood) needed a vacation in 2015. She hopped on a plane to Nashville where she’d spent childhood summers visiting her mother’s family. She planned on returning to England after a few weeks, but her vacation never ended. “Silver Stage”, her debut EP, chronicles this journey through earnest coming-of-age narratives and a sound that—much like her father’s work—offers an English take on traditional American roots music. Backed by Nashville-via-Australia producer Joshua Barber (Gotye, Archie Roach), the songs on “Silver Stage” blend Bonnie Raitt’s world-weary vocals, My Morning Jacket’s ethereal twang, and Brittany Howard’s no-bullshit bravado to create an EP that pays homage to Lilly’s singer-songwriter idols (like John Prine) and establishes the twenty-one-year-old as a writer that’s wise beyond her years.
