Enjoy the music of the St. Augustine Chamber Singers as they perform at the St. Augustine Cathedral Basilica. The concert, entitled “A Patchwork Quilt of American Music”, will trace the arrival of unique musical expressions to the shores of America as immigrants from many countries brought their music with them.
The program will begin with several Native American charts and then follow the various patterns of people arriving in America including songs from England, Italy, Spain, Ireland, Cuba, Africa, Israel and the Middle East.
The Chamber Singers will be joined by instrumentalists Susan McGee, French horn and Caren Umbarger, violin. Several members of the St. Augustine Youth Chorus will perform body percussion; percussion players from Jacksonville University will play a multitude of instruments including congas, slat drums and drum set.
The Chamber Singers are under the direction of Kathy Vande Berg with Barbara Mattingly as the collaborating accompanist.
An offering would be greatly appreciated to defray expenses.
