Hip hop legends Salt-n-Pepa and Kid ‘n Play with guests Rob Base, Coolio, Tone Loc, and Color Me Badd will be live in concert at the St. Augustine Amphitheatre.
Salt-n-Pepa is the group that changed the face of hip-hop as we know giving females across the globe a voice within their communities and in the music industry as a whole. From GRAMMYs to MTV Video Awards, they’ve won them all.
Kid ‘n Play is among one of the first groups to tame rap’s hardcore mentality into a positive, message-oriented music for teens and mass audiences. They debuted in 1988 with the platinum album “2 Hype”.
Rob Base gained Single of the Year honors in 1988 with “It Takes Two” and in 1989 had a solo release “The Incredible Base”, followed by the album “Break of Dawn” which featured one of his hardest hits “Symphony” as well as his party anthem “Get Your Hands Up”.
Coolio is one of the first rappers to balance pop accessibility with gritty, street-level subject matter and language. Most of his hits including “Fantastic Voyage” and “1, 2, 3, 4 (Sumpin New)” were good-time party anthems.
TONE LOC soared from obscurity into pop stardom in 1989 when his hoarse voice and unmistakable delivery made the song “Wild Thing” (using a sample from Van Halen’s “Jamie’s Cryin'”) a massive hit winning countless other awards.
Color Me Badd is one of the top R&B vocal groups of all time. The group has sold 12 million records in the United States.
