The St. Augustine Amphitheatre, in partnership with JaxLive, proudly presents a massive roots reggae concert event featuring Rebelution with special guests The Green and J Boog, Stick Figure, and Through The Roots with guest DJ Mackle spinning between sets. Rebelution’ s strong DIY mentality, relentless touring and deep connection to their fan base via social media, has led them to being one of the best-selling reggae artists on the planet. Since the 2007 release of “Courage to Grow”, the band’s first full-length album, Rebelution’ s music has been praised for its crafty melodies, socially-conscious lyrics and savvy musicianship.
The latest album by The Green, “Hawai‘i ’13”, opens with a chant, “He Mele No Ku‘u Hawai‘i”, preparing the album’s listener as much as the band. The album charts a journey through Hawaiian life and music in 2013, dancing through roots reggae, soul, and R&B.
Special guest Jerry “J Boog” Afemata, a reggae singer of Samoan descent, has not taken a break since the release of his debut album “Hear Me Roar” in 2007. His 2011 album “Backyard Boogie” topped the US Billboard charts and iTunes charts in numerous countries, earning Boog the Best New Entertainer Award at the 2012 International Reggae and World Music Awards. The EP “Live Up!”, released in 2015, reached #18 on the Top Heatseekers chart and #4 on Top Reggae Albums.
Stick Figure’s music has a unique style that creatively blends upbeat roots reggae with the reverberating echoes of dub. Often referred to as the “one man band,” Scott Woodrull single-handedly created 4 full length albums from 2006-2012 (a fifth album, Reprise Sessions, was recorded with a full band and released in 2010), and has sold over 50,000 albums worldwide.
From what was once a dream inspired by close friends, to humble beginnings filled with living room jams, late nights writing songs in the garage, backyard house parties and countless complaints from neighbors, San Diego-based reggae/rock band Through the Roots was born by Evan Hawkins and Taylor Boatwright. Adding Brady O’Rear in 2008 and eventually Corrick Watson (lead guitar/vocals) and Budda Foster (bassist/keys), they became a talented, five-man mix spreading its’ positive messages and showcasing its high energy shows to a growing legion of fans.
