Organist Shannon McKay will present Americana, a program of works by American composers. The program will open with Calvin Hampton’s “Music for a Festival” and close with Adolphus Hailstork’s setting of the African American spiritual “Oh, Freedom”. In between will be Samuel Barber’s “Adagio for Strings”, settings of early American hymn tunes, and Calvin Hampton’s moving interpretation of “America, the Beautiful”.
Ms. McKay has been a fixture of the St. Augustine music scene for the past 30 years. She is principal organist and director of the Cathedral Women’s Schola at the Cathedral Basilica of St. Augustine, and accompanist for the St. Augustine Community Chorus.
