Throughout the month of November, Castillo de San Marcos National Monument will be offering programs to commemorate Native American Heritage Month. November 5 & 6, Cheyenne artist James Black will be showcasing examples of his art in the Castillo. Mr. Black’s ancestors were imprisoned inside the fort over 140 years ago and those ancestors created ledger art during their confinement. Inspired by their story, Mr. Black has continued the tradition of creating ledger art.
Each day at 12:30pm, he will give a formal presentation about his connection to the park and how he taught himself to create art in the traditional way. Throughout the day, visitors are welcome to view his art, speak to the artist, and learn more about his personal story.
