Throughout the month of November, Castillo de San Marcos National Monument will be offering programs to commemorate Native American Heritage Month. The Castillo will host a special Castillo by Candlelight event “The Great Escape: A Seminole Story” on November 12.
In the fall of 1837, over 230 Seminoles were captured and brought to the Castillo as prisoners. During their incarceration, 20 of those prisoners escaped from this fort under mysterious circumstances. Come out and learn about the legacy of the Seminole incarceration as we explore the impact that this escape has had on history.
The program is free, but tickets are required for admission. Space is limited. Tickets can be reserved in advance by calling 904-829-6506 x 233.
Presentations will begin at 6:15pm, 7:00pm, and 7:45pm.
