St. Augustine Distillery and Lincolnville Museum and Cultural Center have teamed up for a MLK Day fundraiser to help the museum renovate their historic building on Martin Luther King Avenue in the Lincolnville neighborhood of downtown St. Augustine. On Monday, January 16th, $5 from every bottle of spirits purchased in the Distillery’s gift shop will be donated to the museum. The Distillery gift shop will be open from 10am to 6pm.
The Lincolnville Museum and Cultural Center was established in 2005. The Excelsior building, which was built in 1925 as Excelsior High School, served as St. Augustine’s only black school until 1928 and reared many noteworthy residents including NFL star Willie Galimore and civil rights leaders Henry and Kat Twine. In 1968, the Excelsior School closed and spent three decades housing a variety of local government offices. Today, the building has been reinvented to preserve the rich black heritage of its historic neighborhood.
