On the first Wednesday of the month, join Lightner Museum Curator Barry Myers for a themed, interactive tour designed to give participants an opportunity to see acquisitions in operation rather than just as static displays. The tour offers guests an intimate encounter with a select few of the Lightner’s eclectic relics.
This months’ tour will look into the fascination of hair art and jewelry and its place in both American and European Victorian society. The Museum has an extensive and varied collection of fine examples originally created to keep the memory of loved ones alive. This tour will provide a better understanding of the social customs that saw history’s last great flourishing of this long-gone art form.
The tour, which is included in admission, will begin in the front lobby of the Museum at 10am. Admission is free for St. Johns County residents with valid ID. Donations are appreciated and accepted after the tour.
