Lovin’ Spoonful Singer/Songwriter John Sebastian will perform at the Ponte Vedra Concert Hall. Playing a major role in the mid-60’s rock revolution, The Lovin’ Spoonful made new music as an American band, putting their first seven singles into the Top Ten. Original songs composed and sung by John include “Do You Believe In Magic?”, “Summer In The City”, “Nashville Cats”, to name a few.
Growing up in Greenwich Village, Sebastian’s father was a noted classical harmonica player and his mother a writer of radio programs. The regular visits of Burl Ives and Woody Guthrie influenced young John who became a fan of, then a participant in the folk music revival of the late 50’s. He started out as a member of the Even Dozen Jug Band with his skills on guitar, harmonica, and autoharp soon making him a sought-after accompanist.
After the Lovin’ Spoonful, he performed at Woodstock and its’ English equivalent the Isle of Wight. He is known for his chart-topping solo in 1976, “Welcome Back” for the Welcome Back Kotter TV show. In 2000, he was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. John Sebastian is not only a master musician, writer, and performer, he remains one of the best ambassadors American music has ever had.
