Join the Coastal Training Program at the GTM Research Reserve for the Invasives & AlterNatives of NE Florida Presentation. Learn how invasive species can be introduced and spread, general characteristics of invasive species, regulations, and management strategies. More importantly, discover common northeast Florida invasive species that could be in your area and what native plants you could use to replace the invasives.
The Coastal Training Program at the GTM Research Reserve works closely with volunteers, homeowners, land managers, developers, landscapers, FDOT, and the public to prevent and stop invasive plant species from further expanding. An invasive plant is a species that usually comes from another place and becomes an issue in its new location by impacting human health, the economy, and/ or the environment. It is estimated that over 1.7 million acres of Florida’s natural areas have become infested with non-native plant species and approximately 42% of the nation’s endangered species have declined as a result of invasive species
