The GTM Research Reserve hosts Afternoon Insight: Right Whales. This free lecture provides a great opportunity to learn more about marine mammals. The North Atlantic right whale is one of the most endangered whale species in the world. They migrate between feeding grounds in the Gulf of Maine and winter calving areas off Georgia and Florida. Their lifespan is believed to be at least fifty years, and some may live more than a century.
Guest speaker, Jen Jakush is a biologist with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. She received a bachelor’s degree in marine biology from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. She has worked with FWC’s North Atlantic Right Whale Project since 2008.
