Due to a unique combination of weather and tide conditions, St. Johns County beaches are currently experiencing an unprecedented amount of land based debris washing up on our beaches. In response, St. Johns County is partnering with Keepers of the Coast, Scenic A1A, and GTMNERR to host an emergency “Give Back to the Beach” cleanup event. The event will provide residents and visitors with the opportunity to work as a community to protect and give back to our beaches.
Participants will be provided gloves, garbage bags, hand sanitizer, and data sheets, and community service hours will be available. Those interested in participating can register at any of the following locations on the day of the event:
Mickler’s Beachfront Park – 1109½ Ponte Vedra Blvd
Middle Beach Lot GTMNERR – Hosted by GTMNERR, contact Shannon Rininger (904-823-4500)
Vilano Beach – 2725 Anahma Drive
St Augustine Beach Pier – 350 A1A Beach Blvd
Crescent Beach – 6930 A1A South
River to Sea Preserve (Summer Haven) – 9805 N. Oceanshore Blvd
The event will include a cigarette butt challenge and participants are encouraged to take photos of each other and the trash they have collected and be sure to tag St. Johns County and associated partners with #loveyoursjcbeach to help spread the word about how much we value our beaches.
