May 5-28, the St. Augustine Art Association will feature selected works produced by artists who participated in the St. Augustine Plein Air Paint Out event held in April. The artwork is in a juried exhibition entitled Gilded. Images may include the town’s Gilded Age architecture, historic landmarks, the natural environment and other related perspectives.
The Best in Show Award is for Roger Bansemer’s light-filled painting, “Early Morning at Flagler”. A St. Augustine native, he’s won many awards throughout his long career and has published pictorial books on lighthouses, coastal birds, and his underwater paintings of the Titanic. He and his wife, Sarah, co-host and produce the PBS “Painting & Travel” television series that airs Saturday mornings on WJCT-Channel 7.
Internationally acclaimed artist, Xi Guo, won the First Place award for her watercolor painting, “Memorial Presbyterian Church”. Lyn Asselta was awarded Second Place for “Morning Light: St. George Street”, a pastel street scene. The Third Place prize went to Jeanne Hollington, for “Lightner Museum Courtyard”, an oil painting, and Martha Ferguson received Fourth Place for her nocturne painting “Spring Lights”. Paul Ladnier earned Honorable Mention for his oil painting, “Ancient City Wall”, and Mary Hubley’s “Quiet Pathway” oil painting also garnered an Honorable Mention.
