Join us for the Annual Commemoration of the Founding of Fort Mose! This event recreates the founding of Gracia Real de Santa Teresa de Mose by Spanish Florida Governor Manuel Montiano and his proclamation extending freedom to Captain Francisco Menendez and his militia men and establishing Fort Mose.
There will be a scholarly presentation in the Visitors Center followed by a Middle Passage Remembrance Ceremony, honoring the countless thousands who were lost at sea or risked the journey south to Spanish Florida, in search of their freedom.
The event is free. Entrance to the Visitor Center is $2 per person; children up to 5 years in age are free.
