During the First Friday Art Walk Recital at the Cathedral Basilica, enjoy a variety of music. Each month will feature a different performer. This months’ recital features concert organist Adam J. Brakel. His spell-binding performances have led to his being compared to Liszt, Gould, Bernstein, and Paganini. Brakel’s repertoire of organ literature is extensive and includes the complete organ works of Bach, Bruhns, Buxtehude, Couperin, Liszt, Franck, Mendelssohn, Duruflé, and Franck. In addition to works of all periods, he has championed the fiendishly difficult Six Etudes of Jeanne Demessieux, being one of very few concert organists in the world to perform and record the complete set. Mr. Brakel has also made a concentrated study of jazz music for the pipe organ and has premiered an arrangement of celebrated jazz pianist Dick Hyman’s Shenandoah and Millennial Countdown.
There will be a free-will offering. Please click on the event website link for more information.
