Dec 2 & 3, 2016

The Colonial Night Watch, part of the History Florida Militia, Inc., is pleased to join the National Park Service in presenting the nighttime tour series called Enemy at the Gates.  This special presentation, with a very limited amount of tickets to be sold, takes visitors in small groups through various vignettes representing historical events during the siege of 1740 in St. Augustine.

In the past, stations have included: Oglethorpe and his commanders discussing the siege, soldiers in the ravelin (fortified entrance area) discussing rumors, reports from Indian allies of the Spanish on Fort Mose, discussions on dwindling supply situation at Castillo, report from Engineering officer, Medical station, troops preparing for surprise attack on Fort Mose.

Activities continue on Saturday on the grounds of the Castillo.  Join hundreds of costumed re-enactors from St. Augustine’s Colonial History as they perform military drills and cannon and musket firing.

At 9AM the Fife and Drum will raise the colors.   At 930 AM there will be a change of Flags Ceremony commemorating the event in 1763 when Florida changed from Spanish to British hands.  Re-enactors from both countries (traditionally enemies) and their militias as well as Native Americans will join together in peace on this commencement of the Holiday Season.

AT 7PM join the Torchlight Parade as it leaves the Castillo and marches to the City Gates.  See the Calendar entry on the Torchlight Parade for more information.
