The St. Augustine Shrine Club is hosting a Chowder Challenge for Children at the St. Augustine Amphitheatre from Noon until 4:00pm and the admission is free! The “challenge” is to determine who makes the best chowders in the local Ancient City area, with all net proceeds raised benefitting the Shriners Hospital for Children Tampa-a 501(c)(3) organization.
There will be four categories of chowder: New England, Minorcan Conch, Seafood and a local Ancient City favorite, Minorcan Clam. A panel of judges will taste and then grade each of the chowders – with no knowledge of which restaurant prepared it. The top three winners in each category will be announced and presented their awards. A “People’s Choice Award” allowing all attendees to fill out ballots for their favorite restaurant will also be presented.
Tickets are $1.00 and each chowder sample will cost $2.00. There will also be water, soft drinks, hot dogs, beer and a mixed bar available – payable with the tickets purchased.
A DJ will also be present to provide a wide range of music.
