Want to start catching fish in the surf? The Florida Department of Environmental Protection’s Gamble Rogers Memorial State Recreation Area at Flagler Beach will host a beginning surf fishing program with local surf fisherman Andy Block who will help you learn.
Andy has been fishing for over 50 years and will teach you about surf fishing gear and tips on targeting specific fish species found in the surf. Points covered will include choosing the right fishing gear (rod, reel, line, hooks, rigs and weights), sand spikes, baits, best tides to fish and identifying good spots on the beach. Each participant will be provided with a set of Florida’s fishing rules, and a list of local and national resources. Participants are encouraged to bring their own fishing equipment, bait and supplies but this is not mandatory.
Reservations are required. The cost of each event is $20 which benefits the Friends of Gamble Rogers State Park. The fee includes all day entry to the park, so bring your lunch, fishing gear and a bathing suit. Space is limited to 25 (aged 12 and up) .
