Artistry of the Saint John’s Bible Lecture

January 16 @ 7:00 pm

| Free
Screen Shot of Illustration from the Saint John's Bible

The St. Augustine Art Association presents a free lecture on the artistry of the acclaimed Saint John’s Bible. Speaker Jim Triggs, Executive Director of The Saint John’s Bible Heritage Program, will explore the ways in which medieval artistic tools and materials used in creating the richly illustrated Bible celebrate modern science. In addition to the multimedia presentation, the large-scale manuscript will be on display for close up viewing.

The Saint John’s Bible is the first handwritten illuminated Bible of its scale in over 500 years. Created under the guidance of Donald Jackson, scribe to the Queen of England, the 21st Century Bible depicts the harmony between faith and reason through artistic renderings of DNA, molecules, deep space, biological life forms and prehistoric cave paintings.

The original seven-volume manuscript is housed on the campus of Saint John’s University in Minnesota, The Saint John’s Bible Heritage Program is an international initiative that brings the beauty of sacred art to communities around the world.

This lecture is presented in partnership with Flagler College and the Cathedral Basilica of Saint Augustine.

To reserve a seat, call the St. Augustine Art Association at (904) 824-2310.
