9/11 Ceremony of Remembrance

September 11, 2017 @ 8:30 am - 8:50 am

The City of St. Augustine will continue its annual Ceremony of Remembrance tradition, a community gathering to remember those who died in the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001.  The ceremony will be held at 8:30am concluding with a minute of silence at approximately 8:45am, timed to coincide with the time the first plane hit the first tower of the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. Then, the St. Augustine Fire Department’s historic 1900 fire bell will ring in a 4/5’s pattern, a time-honored tradition of honoring fallen firefighters.

In addition to the traditional ceremony, Fire Chief Carlos Aviles invites anyone who was personally involved or impacted by the events of September 11 to bring their memorabilia to share – personal photos, mementos, or artifacts. Items will be placed on display inside the fire station prior to the ceremony to be viewed by guests during a public reception immediately following.

For more information, call the St. Augustine Fire Department at 904-825-1098.
