The Ponte Vedra Concert Hall, in partnership with Jax Live, proudly welcomes indie rock singer/songwriter Kurt Vile and the Violators with guest Luke Roberts. Philadelphia-based, singer/songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer Kurt Vile has been making solo albums since 2008. Kurt formed backing band, the Violators, for touring and recording. The band currently includes Jesse Trbovich on bass, guitar and saxophone, Rob Laasko (ex-member of Mice Parade) on guitar and bass, and Kyle Spence (ex-member of Harvey Milk) on drums.
Vile’s most recent album (released in 2015 by Matador Records) “b’lieve I’m goin down…” has proven to be his most popular effort to date, garnering widespread critical acclaim and radio airplay. Defying obvious categorization, “b’lieve I’m goin down…” debuted at No. 10 on Billboard’s Top Rock Album chart, as well as No. 2 on Folk Albums and No. 8 on Alternative Albums.
The music made by Luke Roberts is wide in scope and spare in structure. It is as universal as it is personal – if you have to label it, the right stamp to put on it might be “redemptive blues”. The songs themselves are not looking for or extolling redemption, but the search for liberty that underlies them and the sense of freedom they express (often between the lines), leaves the listener with a sense of optimism that can only be called redemptive.
