St. Augustine Music News, Aug. 27 – Sept. 2, 2010

August 27th, 2010

Greetings Music Lovers!

I hope everyone survived the first week of school without any major issues!  At my day job at St. Augustine Youth Services, where all of our 28 residents started school last Monday, it was quite a week indeed.  I am glad to say that we made it through without any serious catastrophes.

On the music front, there are notable items I am carrying over from last week, because they all bear repeating:

Janine Newfield is hosting a House Concert at her home tonight, Friday, August 27th, featuring modern folk recording artists Paul Kamm and Eleanore MacDonald.  Some seating may still be available, but reservations are required. Please contact Janine at j9new@aol.com or 501-1589.  Tickets are $15.

SAVE THE DATE:  Planning continues on a very special event on September 15th in support of St. Augustine blues artist VINCE JEFFS, who continues to fight a difficult battle with cancer.  “Ladies Sing The Blues” promises to be an elegant evening of music, art, champagne, fine food and fellowship in support of Vince, and will feature performances by Colleen Murphy, Clare King (with the Hurricane Surfers), Elizabeth Roth (with the Grapes of Roth), Marianne Lerbs (with JAIDD) and Lisa Mack (hey! that’s me! – with the Benevolent Blues Band).  There will also be a special reunion performance by The Viceroys, Vince Jeffs’ former band, featuring appearances by Katherine Archer, Jennifer Chase, Lis Williamson, Mike Hart, and other music notables.  The event will take place at Mardi Gras, 123 San Marco Avenue, beginning at 7 p.m., and will also include Silent Art Auction, an elegant menu of hors d’ouevres, champagne, desserts and coffee, cash bar.  Imagine, a Wednesday evening in St. Augustine, with the opportunity to get dressed up, enjoy fabulous food, champagne and great music, and help a brother in need.  Don’t miss this event! More information and tickets, which are $30 per person or $50 per couple, please email me lisamackps@aol.com or you can purchase tickets online with PayPal – just visit http://www.oldcity.com/ladies.cfm.  If you would like to be sent a personalized invitation for the event, just email me your mailing address. All proceeds from the event will go directly to Vince Jeffs.

The Fall fundraising concert for the Gamble Rogers Folk Festival will be held Saturday, September 18th at Flagler College Auditorium. Doors will open at 6 p.m. and the show will begin at 7 p.m., featuring The Morse Family Band, Jamie DeFrates and Susan Brown, Charlie Robertson, and Men in the House. Tickets are $25 upper tier and $35 for stage-front VIP seating. Call 904 794 4163 for tickets or visit Music Matters or Simple Gestures in St. Augustine. More information is available at www.gamblerogersfest.org.
