St. Augustine Music News, Feb. 5-11, 2010
February 5th, 2010Greetings, Music Lovers!
Happy Friday! I hope you’ve all enjoyed a wonderful week. There is a lot going on this week and in the near future in our little town – here are some items of interest, along with this week’s music calendar.
Time is running out to purchase tickets for this Thursday’s RICHIE HAVENS Concert at the Flagler College Auditorium at 7 p.m. The show will benefit the Gamble Rogers Folk Festival, and feature special guest GOVE SCRIVENOR. Tickets are available at Music Matters and the St. Augustine Amphitheatre Box Office, or online at Ticketmaster.
The DUNEHOPPERS (Bob Parsons, Kathy Zemanek, Leo Sheppard, Mike Elias and Allen Hood) will be performing at the Flagler College Auditorium this Friday night, February 5th, from 6:30 to 7 p.m, during the intermission, and again at the end of the featured program: “The Great Southern Cracker Road Show.” The program will feature songs and stories from the “front porch of rural America.” Other featured contributors include author and historian Dana St. Claire, and author and storyteller Janis Owens. The program is free and open to the public.
Partner, manager and friend of THE WOBBLY TOMS, Greg “The Green Monsta” Smith, was diagnosed with a serious blood infection this past December and spent several weeks in the hospital. Greg remains unable to return to work, so his pals are throwing a fundraising party next Friday, February 12th, at the British Pub on Anastasia Island.
The Wobbly Toms, along with Mono Mojado, Wormzilla, and Pineapple, will perform at “MonstFest 2010,” all proceeds of which will go directly to Greg to help deal with his medical and other bills while he is recovering. The event will kick off at 8 p.m., and $5 gets you in the door for this big music lineup. For more information, visit www.myspace.com/wobblytoms OR www.facebook.com/wobbly.toms.
Although not musical in nature, this is newsworthy – The Menu Designs team in the American Cancer Society Relay For Life is selling chances on a “Valentines’ Day Lovers Basket” to raise funds for this worthwhile cause. The basket, currently on display at Deco Fine Dining, contains the following: A 2-night stay at The Inn at Camachee Harbor, Sunday Brunch for two at Deco, a one-hour massage at The Peaceful Place, a manicure and pedicure, shampoo, cut and blow-dry at The Hair Loft, champagne, assorted cheeses and chocolates, smoked oysters, smoked sausage, crackers, gourmet nuts, wine glasses, scented candles, soaps and bath products and much more. Tickets are $10 each, or 3 for $25, and may be obtained by contacting Devin Lobo at (904) 377-4352/devin.lobo@gmail.com. Drawing will be held Friday, February 12th.
Speaking of drawings, some of you may remember when several months ago I told you about the amazing matchstick guitar created by Pat and Colleen Murphy’s father, which was being raffled off to raise money to assist drummer Ricky Woollum through a difficult time. All this time, tickets have been sold, and Pat and Colleen will continue to sell them until March 17th, St. Patrick’s Day, when the winner of this incredible, fully functional piece of musical artwork will be drawn. Anyone wishing to purchase tickets may contact Colleen at 829-5081/Colleen.Murphy@menudesigns.com
